Home education seen as one route to avoiding school bullies

At Developing Experts, we know that our teaching and learning platform cannot reverse the impact of bullying for children. However, as a small consolation, it does enable youngsters to stay learning, stay interested, and stay engaged in the world of study.

As the creators of a teaching and learning platform designed to help children thrive in their learning process, it stands to reason that we are saddened to hear of anything which lessens the opportunity for youngsters to enjoy their school years, forcing them into home education alternatives.

This week is Anti-Bullying Week, a campaign initiative organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. For far too many, upsetting behaviour in the class and playground is all too common, driving parents and carers to seek alternatives for education.

A recent survey among children reported that 90% said bullying took place within school, and that 68% said it had had a huge impact on their self-esteem. Perhaps it’s no wonder that some of the home-educators who reach out to us are doing so in order to support a young person who has experienced persistent, or a period of, bullying at school. That particular school-aged child may no longer feel comfortable in the classroom, or may be having a period outside of mainstream school while waiting to start in a new school or locality.

At Developing Experts, we know that our teaching and learning platform cannot reverse the impact of bullying for children. However, as a small consolation, it does enable youngsters to stay learning, stay interested, and stay engaged in the world of study.

From feedback we’ve received since launching, it’s also clear that the huge catalogue of online lessons, led by our 100 plus global expert scientists are helping those young students engaged in home education feel more confident about their learning path, and optimistic about their abilities and their futures.

This week, as the UK marks Anti-Bullying Week and puts the issue firmly out there for discussion, we know we can’t change the experiences of individuals overnight, nor take away the pain of past bullying experiences. We do hope that we are making a positive contribution in the lives of youngsters who, for whatever reason, need more home education.
