This week, DE had the pleasure of filming with Ian Guest, Head Gardener at the beautiful Fairhaven Woodland and Water Gardens in South Walsham, Norfolk.
Fairhaven is set in 130 acres of unspoilt woodland and contains wild and natural plantings. It is a real hotspot for wildlife enthusiasts and contains nearly 4 miles of woodland pathways to explore. It backs on to South Walsham broad and provides boat trips too. To find more information about Fairhaven, visit here.
On film, we recorded several videos with Ian, who has a clear passion for gardening and horticulture. He is an expert in the field of plants and trees and also how the Gardens' recycle natural resources to use for plant growth, conservation and maintenance. Particularly interesting is the 950 year - old 'King Oak' tree, which was an acorn during the reign of William the Conquerer. Ian's videos about plants, trees and recycling will be featuring on several of the lessons across the year groups.
Captured here is Ian discussing how a tree forms rings and how this helps us to understand how old a tree is - in the midst of a snow storm! DE would like to thank Ian for his time and help with filming!
