Developing Experts launches new writing challenges - Mission: To Write

Developing Experts launches extended writing challenges in lessons to help boost literacy and numeracy skills.

Whilst Developing Experts hosts a science learning platform for Key Stages 1, KS2, and KS3, we always encourage a multi-disciplinary approach to learning in our lessons.

For example, throughout lessons, there are multiple opportunities for STEM learning, as well as activities focused on art, debating skills, problem-solving, as well as literacy and numeracy.

With the advent of technology, as well as adaptation of learning styles, some children are having fewer chances to write extensively.  We must remember that writing is not a skill exclusive to English lessons.  Indeed, scientific writing and reporting is a vital skill which is needed in careers across STEM subjects.

That’s why Developing Experts has begun to introduce an extended writing task to lessons from Year 2 upwards, to encourage not only written communication skills, but the use of scientific vocabulary within writing.

We are helping learners to boost their literacy and numeracy skills through KS1, KS2, and KS3, whilst also developing their science skills and knowledge. Want to see how we can incorporated these new tasks? You can start your free 14 day trial here.

Tasks range from creative diary entries, newspaper reports, and persuasive speech writing; to more scientific hypotheses, explanations and investigative evaluations.

We have named these tasks ‘Mission: To Write’ in keeping with the re-branding of our product ‘Mission:Science.’ Each extended writing task is highlighted with a fun animated picture on the slideshow, as well as a colourful worksheet, which acts as both the instructions and template for the learners to write on.

So, your writing mission, if you choose to accept it, is…
